Holding space with noise, rage, disruption, and resistance against the genocidal “mechanisms” that aided in resolutely placing Israel on the map and the passersby who support it.
Territorial expansion: Following the Arab rejection of the 1947 Partition Plan, Resolution 181, the ensuing 1948 war resulted in Israel expanding its territory beyond the UN proposed borders. This violated the UN resolution that created the basis for its existence.
The assassination of a UN mediator: In September 1948, Count Folke Bernadotte, the UN's acting mediator, was assassinated by the extremist Zionist group Lehi while attempting to broker a peace deal. The attack shocked the UN, and Israel was criticized for not preventing it.
The Palestinian refugee issue: During the '48 war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or expelled from their homes. In Dec. '48, the UN adopted Resolution 194, calling for the return of refugees, restitution of property, and compensation. Israel ignored this resolution.
Israel's '49 UN admission: Seen by some as an acceptance of its legitimacy by the international community. Its admission was conditional on accepting and implementing resolutions concerning refugees and Jerusalem. Israel failed to uphold its end of the agreement.
Disregard for resolutions: Critics highlight Israel's record of consistently ignoring UN resolutions, including legally binding Security Council resolutions. These resolutions have demanded actions such as:
Withdrawing from territories occupied since the 1967 Six-Day War.
Halting expansion of settlements in the West Bank & East Jerusalem. Adhering to international law concerning the treatment of Palestinians. Ending the blockade of Gaza.
Questioning legitimacy: Israeli leaders have publicly questioned the UN's legitimacy & dismissed its findings.
In 2023, following a UN General Assembly resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, Israel's UN ambassador openly vowed to continue military operations, questioning the global body's legitimacy.
Targeting UN personnel: Israel has been accused of targeting UN personnel and facilities in its military operations. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has repeatedly alleged that Israel has attacked its facilities, killed its staff, and smeared the agency.
Protecting impunity: The consistent US veto power in the UN Security Council shields Israel from binding sanctions or enforcement measures, granting it a "regime of impunity." This protection is cited as reason for Israel's disregard for international law with no consequences.
The whole world conspired against Gaza, the whole world is at stake because of it.
